St. Croix, USVI - October 18, 2023 — Classes are underway at the Cane Bay Films LLCs Film Industry Workforce Training Program™© and students have begun their evening classes that include study in Cinematography, Camera Techniques, Grip, Set Lighting, Production Design, Costume Design, Casting, Hair and make-up, and Safety.

Taking place at St. Croix’s Buccaneer Hotel, the group of more than 50 participants are the inaugural class of the island’s first training program that brings Hollywood to USVI.

The Film Industry Workforce Training Program™© is running through October 29, 2023 and is founded by Johanna Bermúdez-Ruiz, a local award-winning director. Its aim is to equip the Virgin Islands workforce with professional skills to prepare them for long-term employment in the US and global film industry.

Instructors include Suki Medencevic, Executive Head Instructor Cinematographer, ASC; Neyda Mercado, Producer Program Manager; Jerry Garcia, Marketing and Communications Specialist; Orlando Lopez, Costume Designer trainer; Patricia Alonso Casting Director Trainer; Gilbert Gonzalez, Hair and Make-Up Trainer and more.
